Be Your Cause – Lesson Seven
Courage starts with showing up and letting ourselves be seen. – Brené Brown
SAYING YES TO ME
Yes, I am!
The present tense first-person singular of BE is AM
As in, I am
Ok, say these out loud!
I am happy
I am amazing
I am a miracle
I am in unison with Source
I am sexy
I am beautiful
How does it feel? Do you feel like you are lying? Does it feel too hard to be true?
A mentor of mine, David Neagle, told us once to say out loud:
I am the most important thing in my life.
I must admit that it felt a bit absurd. Why would I be the most important thing in my life? After all, there is family to consider. There are pets, there is work, there is life. SO many things at that point in my life seemed so much more important to me than me! And those things, I realized, took precedence over ME. And that ME was taking third, fourth or sometimes fifth place in terms of priorities. Eeesh.
So, I had to change a few things. I had to say no to some folks. I decided to put ME on the schedule first. I decided to make more room in my life for me! And maybe that wasn’t the easiest thing to do. But it was necessary.
What about you? Can you say that YOU are the most important thing in your life? Is that difficult to admit? What do you feel when you say that? Do you feel guilty? Or ashamed? Or do you embrace it?
Because, in fact, YOU are the most important thing in your life. And for you to BEcome that thing you most desire, you must put yourself in 1st place. Always.
By making yourself THE most important person in your life, you are modeling for others how you want to be treated. By making YOU the most important thing in your life, you are telling the universe, hey look at me! I am here!! Let’s get this thing going!!
Life is a series of priorities. Some call them goals. In my world, they are priorities.
Let’s look at the definition of “goal.”
According to Merriam-Webster, a goal is:
Something that you are trying to do or achieve
Now look at the definition of “priority:”
Something that is more important than other things and that needs
to be done or dealt with first
See the difference? Doesn’t a priority just have more oomph to it?
A goal is just something you try to do but a priority, well that is something that is MORE important than other things.
So, make yourself a priority. Start doing it today.
Exercise #7
How will you make yourself a priority today? What do you need to do on a regular basis that puts YOU at the top of your To Do list? What needs to change?
