At the Crossroads of Entrepreneurism and Sustainability

Melissa is a former TV and radio producer whose client list includes PBS, WNYC Public Radio, and The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, among many other educational and non-profit media outlets, and who has written for national food blogs like Civil Eats and local food magazines like Edible Nutmeg. Melissa is a passionate sustainable food advocate and has dedicated many years of her life and work to the local food movement, working with chefs, restaurants, farmers and local food producers to help them launch their products into the marketplace. Her attention to healthy food and social justice issues began with her work on public radio as a Contributing Producer for the Leonard Lopate Show on WNYC when she produced a regular food series with Special Guest Ruth Reichl, then Editor in Chief of Gourmet magazine, and won the James Beard Foundation Best Radio Show in 2006. Melissa got up close and personal with how our food is grown, processed and distributed, which propelled her into the world of sustainable agriculture advocacy work. There she realized the absolute need for a more reality-based business model that supports not only profit but also a healthier, happier planet and way of living for all.

Originally from Chicago, Melissa now lives in New Haven, Connecticut and is on the Board of the Sustainable Farm School, helping them to create a business model where profit and social good intersect. In her spare time, she is currently working with the Sustainable Farm School to create a garden after school program in her backyard and also tends to the school garden down the street. She is a proud member of The Grove, a collaborative co-working diverse community of innovators, entrepreneurs, nonprofits, and change agents in New Haven, Connecticut. She lives in an historic area known as Fair Haven, next to the Quinnipiac River, with her dog Harry and her cat Oliver and she makes her own kombucha.

“I dove in to work with Melissa Waldron because she got me so jazzed about how I could make more money! Her enthusiasm and belief in me were infectious! She also brought the whole process right down into tangible, doable, concrete numbers and strategies and demystified the whole ‘business side’ of business. I felt immediately empowered and excited. And within a few weeks I was implementing new ways to earn money right off the bat! I also LOVE her focus on sustainability and conscious entrepreneurism. I want to be part of THAT movement!!” – Michelle White Hart, Video Visibility Mentor, Michellewhitehart.com

“I chose to work with Melissa for a couple reasons; her enthusiasm and positive energy, but mostly because I really think she gets it – she listens, and she has a unique way of “pulling out your story” to make your brand!” – Terri Cisero, Terri’s Treasures, IBustStonesForALiving.com
